HTML <i> Tag
<p>Everyone watched as the <i>RMS Titanic</i> entered the harbour.</p>
The above example demonstrates usage of the <i>
element.
The W3C states that the <i>
element:
…represents a span of text in an alternate voice or mood, or otherwise offset from the normal prose in a manner indicating a different quality of text, such as a taxonomic designation, a technical term, an idiomatic phrase from another language, transliteration, a thought, or a ship name in Western texts.
A Note on Usage
Before using the <i>
element, think about whether another element could be more applicable. For example, for stress emphasis, use the <em>
element. To markup the defining instance of a term, use the <dfn>
element.
